Chelsea best West Ham 2-0

Frank LampardFrank Lampard scored his 200th goal for the Blues and contributed to Chelsea’s 2-0 win over West Ham at Stamford Bridge stadium and eventual surpassing of Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League standings.

Lampard scored his historic goal in the 19th minute after heading in a cross from Eden Hazard. This goal places him in second place for overall goals for the club, just two goals behind current record-holder Bobby Tambling. Soon after, Andy Carrol seemed to have scored a goal for the Hammers but the referee disallowed it, citing a push to the back of Chelsea defender David Luiz before taking the shot.

The Blues sought to double their lead at the break, but Demba Ba fired his shot straight at Hammers keeper Jussi Jääskeläinen. This was Ba’s second chance to score, but he failed on both opportunities. The awaited goal would come, however, early in the second half.  Hazard and Juan Mata attacked with finesse, with their cooperative play leading to Hazard beating three defenders and slotting the ball home.

With the victory and Tottenham’s defeat against Fulham, Chelsea is now third in the Premier League standings and in running for Champions League qualification.
